Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Location: Runcorn, Cheshire

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week

Salary: £45,000 - £53,000 + excellent benefits package

About the Role

Our client, a leading aerospace engineering and manufacturing organisation with a newly expanded, fully integrated facility in Runcorn, is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead their Manufacturing Engineering function.

The site supports major global aerospace programmes and is recognised as a centre of excellence for surface treatment, precision engineering, assembly and overhaul work. With advanced manufacturing processes, lean techniques and a focus on innovation, the organisation is committed to delivering high-value, complex components to exacting standards.

This role will lead a team of manufacturing and process engineers, driving continuous improvement, optimising manufacturing processes, and supporting new product introduction to ensure efficient, safe and cost-effective production.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead, develop and manage the Manufacturing Engineering team.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing strategies aligned to production and business objectives.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence across all engineering activities.

Process & Production Improvement

  • Lead improvement initiatives across efficiency, quality, cost and safety (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen).
  • Enhance equipment reliability, reduce downtime and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Reduce scrap, optimise cycle times and improve throughput.

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Support all phases of NPI, ensuring a smooth transition from design into full-scale production.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering on manufacturability, tooling, equipment and process definition.

Equipment & Capital Projects

  • Oversee design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
  • Lead CAPEX planning, project management and budget control for engineering projects.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and advanced manufacturing technologies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Production, Quality, Supply Chain and Maintenance teams to resolve issues, implement improvements and support programme delivery.
  • Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with safety and environmental regulations.

People Development

  • Coach, train and mentor engineering staff, supporting professional development and performance management.
  • Build engineering capability and succession plans within the team.

Education & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience in manufacturing engineering leadership within a production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience leading process optimisation and equipment improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrable experience managing capital projects and automation initiatives.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of CNC machining, aerospace assembly processes or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience working in aerospace or other highly regulated precision engineering environments.
