Senior EC&I Engineer

Location: Warrington

Contract: Permanent, Full-time

Salary: £55,000 - £75,000 + full benefits package

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior EC&I Engineer to join their engineering team, delivering complex electrical, control, instrumentation and automation (EC&I) projects across highly regulated environments. This senior role involves leading design, specification, installation, and commissioning of EC&I systems, supporting multi-discipline teams from project inception through to completion.

You will play a critical part in ensuring the integrity, safety, and compliance of EC&I installations across projects, from early design phases through to commissioning and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

EC&I Design & Technical Delivery

  • Lead and deliver EC&I engineering studies, design and specification across FEED, detailed design, and construction phases.
  • Produce and review technical deliverables including:
  • Electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable routing plans
  • Control & instrumentation layouts
  • Instrument datasheets, specifications, and vendor documentation
  • Hazard and risk analyses relating to electrical and control systems
  • Technical specification review and supply-chain documentation

Instrumentation, Control & Automation Systems

  • Design and specify control, instrumentation and automation systems for plant operations.
  • Support installation and commissioning phases, including loop checking, calibration, testing and verification of EC&I systems.
  • Manage change control and ensure EC&I compliance across safety, legislation and quality standards.

Project & Contractor Management

  • Coordinate multi-discipline teams, contractors, and suppliers to deliver EC&I scope.
  • Review and approve vendor and contractor documentation, electrical and instrumentation installation work.
  • Ensure EC&I activities meet regulatory, safety and quality standards at all project stages.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Candidates with a strong EC&I background are encouraged to apply. Preferred qualifications and experience:

Experience

  • Proven experience as an EC&I Engineer, minimum 5 years preferred
  • Experience in regulated, high-integrity industries (nuclear, energy, manufacturing, defence, etc.)
  • Strong track record delivering EC&I design, specification, installation, and commissioning projects
  • Familiarity with control systems, instrumentation, automation, and safety compliance
  • Experience managing contractors, reviewing vendor documentation and ensuring regulatory compliance

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering or relevant discipline
  • Professional affiliation (e.g. IET, or similar), ideally working towards chartership
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance if required by project scope
